I have finally unpacked the final boxfrom the Craft and Quilt Fair in Melbourne last weekend. What a fabulous experience it was, and how great for Powertex and "Faeries with Attitude" to get such exposure in Melbourne. Many thanks to both Ash and Mark, from Powertex Australia, for such an opportunity. Also, thanks to Sharron, Caren and Lyn for helping out on the stand during the Fair and being our support people while Ash and I demonstrated or held workshops. For the wonderful artwork that was on the stand, thanks to Val, Kaz, Sharron and Caren. There were so many compliments about the standard and variety of artwork. We were so lucky to get the additional space above the stand to display the fantastic mixed media and PowerPrint pieces. Thanks also to Ken, my husband. He was up the ladder hanging artwork, helping shift stock, doing a lot of the "heavy stuff" during set-up and then on Sunday night, taking it all back down again. I feel as if it has taken all week to recover, but will be back into workshops and the Certified Powertex Trainer Course this week!!

Lois and Jocelyn with some of their work.
Well, I have had a fabuous weekend working with Lois, Jocelyn and Kaz as they finished off their Level 3 and 4 Certified Powertex Trainer Course. Wonderful to see the results that can be achieved using Powertex products, by some very clever people!! Although there were some concerns that they had not painted much in the past, all the girls achieved wonderful results, proving they were more talented that they were giving themselves credit for. Lois and Jocelyn finished their mixed media pieces on Saturday for Level 3 and today Kaz joined them to finish Level 4. Kaz's work can also be seen on her Facebook page, Quintessential. Have just had a fantastic couple of days working with our newest Certified Powertex Trainers in Victoria, Lois and Jocelyn Abbott. Another mother and daughter team!! Lois and Jocelyn are located in Melbourne and their contact details will be on the Powertex Australia site soon. Pictured are the finished sculptures and stone art pieces completed as part of the Level One and Tqo Trainer Course, and some photos taken during the making of the pieces. Lois and Jocelyn will be completing Level Three and Four at the end of June. The mother and child stone art piece that Lois completed featured a beautiful quote: "He who sleeps under a quilt is warmed by love". New training dates will be announced soon. Following the Craft and Quilt Fair at the end of July, I will be conducting the Certified Powertex Trainer Course at venues around the State, and at the Churchill Studio. Dates and venues to be listed on the Powertex Australia and "Faeries" site soon!! I just love days like this!! What a delight it was to work with the participants from the AYCE program at Wantirna on Tuesday. A group of students and a few teachers produced such beautiful sculptures and were just wonderful to work with. So many different colours and fabrics used. Very definite ideas on what they wanted to make, and then at the end of the day everyone was so helpful in tidying up and helping pack the "faerie van". Thank-you all so much for such a great day!! Then on Wednesday, I was over at Wonthaggi for the May Day lunch with the Trades and Labour Council, where we so fortunate to hear Joan Coxsedge speak on "Activism in Art". She is an artist, activist and former politician. She was involved in the Save our Sons movement, opposed to conscription, during the Vietnam War. Joan was actually imprisoned for her beliefs, being one of the "Fairlea Five". Her talk about her life and travels with her artwork was so interesting. A truly inspirational woman!! As a "special" event, the Faeries will be at this market and will be featuring the work of Sharron Johnson, Rhonda Hunt, Val Prokopiv and Kaz Phillips. A great opportunity to see and purchase some work by other Powertex Trainers, just in time for Mothers Day, Saturday, 11th May at the Kay Street Gardens, Traralgon. Sculptures and art work by Val, Sharron, Kaz and Rhonda will be available, great for last minute Mothers Day Shopping. We will also have information about workshops in Traralgon, Morwell and Churchill and the Certified Powertex Trainer course information. So pleased to announce that we have another new Powertex Trainer, Karell "Kaz" Phillips from Traralgon. I have had the best few days, working with a lovely group of friends on Friday, a bit of a "play day". Just working in the studio, doing our own things, but sharing ideas, trying different techniques, seeing the outcomes of other workshops - thanks Sharron for giving us so many ideas in regard to making your own fabric, and generally solving the problems of the world over numerous cups of coffee. And then on the weekend, had the pleasure of taking Kaz through the Powertex training program, She now has Level One and Two!! Well done Karell!! So enthusiastic, Karell has already started her own Facebook business page, check out https://www.facebook.com/quintessentialessenceofexpression Off to do a workshop at Wyreena Community Arts Centre in Croydon tomorrow. I will also be taking down my first delivery of sculptures to the gallery which will be there on a regular basis!! Just a reminder as well that all coloured Powertex 500ml bottles are $25.00 for February. This includes, Ivory, Terracotta, Lead-Grey, Bronze, Black and Green. Postage extra of course. I have finally over-come my absolute terror at the thought of having to use the EFTPOS machine, so am now quite happy to do mail orders. Our lovely people at the local Australia Post in Churchill have been really helpful, and if it is a large order,I will compare it with a courier. Just as a rough guide, managed to get 6 litres to Melbourne, plus a few heads and other bits and pieces for $15.75. |
